Tim Hall

The winningest coach in PLNU soccer history, Tim Hall enters into his 15th season as men’s head coach and is in his third year leading the women’s program. As coach for both the men’s and women’s teams he has a 162-101-20 career mark with 11 playoff appearances. His men’s squads have comprised a 162-101-20 overall record with nine playoff appearances. In two seasons leading the women’s team, Hall has posted a 25-11-7 mark with two postseason showings, including an appearance in the 2009 NAIA title game.

In addition, Hall’s teams have produced numerous All-GSAC, All-Region and All-American players over the years, along with many All-GSAC Academic and NAIA Scholar Athletes. In 2009, he coached first-team All-American, Tiffany Kracy and honorable mention All-American, Katie Pedlowe. Both players were also selected to the NAIA All-Tournament team with Kracy named Top Defender.

Last season, 2009, saw the men’s team in a rebuilding phase. The team finished just 3-9-2, though two players, Francois Furlan and Macaine Piercy, were named to the All-GSAC team.

Hall guided the women’s team to the best season in the history of the program in 2009. The ladies went 15-5-4 overall and finished 12th in the national rankings. But the real excitement began when the postseason started. The Sea Lions reached the GSAC tournament finals where they lost in penalty kicks 3-1. PLNU was awarded a berth to the NAIA Championship Tournament, however, and rolled off four consecutive wins, culminating in an appearance in the title game.

Hall was named as the San Diego Union-Tribune Coach of the Year and he was the winner of the NAIA Coach of Character for soccer.

A 1984 PLNU graduate, Hall received his master’s degree in Christian Ministries from Point Loma Nazarene University and earned his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management from Alliant International University. His dissertation work was in the area of the Character/ Spiritual Formation of Athletes. Hall is an Ordained Minister in the Church of the Nazarene and says that PLNU is the perfect place for his history with soccer to merge with his calling to ministry.

Hall was a four-year starter as a utility player for the Point Loma soccer team from 1980 to `83 and a member of the `81 club that posted its first .500-or-better record in school history. He also led the `83 team to PLNU’s first play-off berth in school history. He says: “it is fun to be a part of seeing the program grow over the years.” Hall capped off his collegiate career with a senior season that included NAIA All-District 3 Honors and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

In 1996, Hall returned to his alma mater to take over the men’s soccer team. He has guided the program to 10-plus wins in most seasons and a school-best 14 victories in 1998 and 10 shutouts in 2006. His teams are known for their tough brand of soccer on the field and their community service and global perspective off the field.

Hall’s teams have taken three trips to South Central Africa for mission work: in the summer of 98, 2003, and 2006. It was in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi in South Central Africa where Hall spent the first 14 years of his life as a missionary child and had his start with soccer. This past two summers he accompanied the PLNU women’s and men’s teams respectively to Brazil.

When not attending to his soccer duties, Hall teaches psychology at PLNU.

Tim and his wife Tracy are the proud parents of Tyler and Tara Lynn. The Hall family resides in the Point Loma community.
